Why is video running several seconds behind the audio?

What's causing my video to run several seconds behind the audio? I am testing this with HDTV recordings. How can I get this to synch up? Sometimes, it synchs correctly. Is this a bandwidth issue? My upstream speed gets upgraded in a couple of days. So, if that's the cause of the issue, the problem will be fixed.

PS: Also, what's the setting to run sagetvtranscoder.exe at a higher CPU priority?

Thanks in advance!

I really would like to know why the video/audio gets stuck once every 2 seconds. Is this related to not having enough bandwidth? Audio is way ahead of the audio. While transcoding, I have roughly 20-30% idle CPU still.

Anybody out there?

Are you testing this on your home LAN? Is it wired/wireless/hybrid?

Testing this remotely via Internet. No weird configuration, no wi-fi. DSL upstream is roughtly 200-300kbps.

I can't figure it out. I have more than enough CPU power now. DSL speed seems to be stable (at least when transfering compressed bianaries via FTP).

It seemed to be working okay for a little while this morning. I'm just curious what symptoms I'd get if there's not enough bandwidth. Would it get stuck once every 2 seconds and/or having the audio several seconds ahead of the video? I have my client placeshifter set at everything automatic.

If it's just a momentary pause every 2 seconds or so then you may also want to look to your decoder drivers. when i upgraded my desktop video card on a hardwired setup i came across this momentary pause even though there was plenty of hardware capability. turned out to be my nvidia driver configuration.

just a thought

Thanks for the replies. It looks like I can make this happen when I start selecting items on in the menus. If I pause for a few seconds, it goes away. After looking at the bandwidth analyser tool, it looks like as soon as there's a big spike in the bandwidth (where the stream bandwidth exceeds the channel bandwidth), the video starts pausing once every 2 seconds and doesnt recover from the spike.

My upgrade in DSL happens tomorrow, I'll report back to see if that was the issue.

Okay, is there a phone # I can call to get support for this? I have already spent hours trying to figure this out on my own. I wish I hadnt paid for the license before getting it to work. I already have more than enough bandwidth and CPU power.
Surely, I can't be the only person with HDTV transcoded video/audio going out of synch and pausing every few seconds. Sometimes, it does work. But most of the time it doesn't.

Andy, the problem is that I dont want to wait 3 days to get help with this issue. Tech support says up to 72 hours.

PS: And, yes, I did contact tech support.

This thread was started 2 days ago, so part of any wait could have been over by now.

I don't know when you contacted support, but you've been asking for SageTV to reply here when it has been stated in several places that this is a user to user forum. Someone from SageTV _might_ see something on the forum, but that isn't to be expected.

Andy, any chance I could at least get the default value of video_buffer_size in the properties file of Placeshifter? The only documentation I have on this is the value needs to be in bytes. I can at least play with this setting until somebody gets back to me to resolve this problem.

Thanks in advance!

Sorry, but I wouldn't have any idea what the default setting for that would be.
