Set up SageTV video & audio decoders

I just installed Sage 5.04 on my HTPC which has a ATI 9800 Pro video card with a MadDog Entertainer DSP 7.1 sound card. I have Theatertek version 2 and I'd like to use the NVidia video and audio decoders that come with it for Sage. Can anyone tell how to go about it?

Do you have Windows Media Player 10 installed? If so, open it up, go into the Tools menu and select "Options..." This will open up a window for you with a bunch of tabs across the top. Select the DVD tab. You want the Advanced tab at the bottom. For me, at least, using the NVidia decoders, this will open up a configuration screen for the audio decoder. It contains a speaker setup menu that allows you to select speaker type "Receiver" and a checkbox for Output using S/PDIF cable. Then select NVidia decoders in Sagetv setup and reboot your HTPC. You should be good to go after that

Thanks for the help Fluffdaddy & Stanger89. I have a few more questions. When I go the Audio/Video menu in Detailed Setup, I see settings for Video Renderer, MPEG2 Video Filter Decoder, Audio Renderer and MPEG 2 Audio Decoder Filter. What's the difference between the Renderers and the Decoder Filters? And which ones do I set to use the NVidia codecs from Theatertek?

Also, as for MPEG2 Video Decoder Filter is concerned do I choose the NVidia Video Decoder directly or do I choose the NVidia Video Post Processor? For MPEG2 Audio Decoder I have a choice of Default, AC3Filter, MPEG Audio Decoder, NVidia Audio Decoder, and SageTV MPEG Audio Decoder. I'm assuming that I should choose the NVidia Audio Decoder. Is that right? And for Audio Renderer, I have a choice of Default, Envy 24 Family Audio (WDM), Default DirectSound Device, Default WaveOut Device, and DirectSound Envy24 Family Audio (WDM). Which one do I choose?

Sorry for all the questions but In a newbie to Sage.

I started typing here, but realized this really should be an FAQ, so try this for starters:

As for decoder, you want nVidia Video Decoder, not the post processor. And if you're using digital out, you'll want NVidia Audio Decoder.

The new FAQ entry that you wrote has been really helpful. Thanks. I'm using analog out so do I still choose NVidia Audio decoder?

You'll probably have to use a different one, because the nVidia decoders don't support audio decoding in Sage.
