SageTVClient issues
Ok. I have been using SageTV and SageTVClient for a while now and I have noticed a weird behavior on SageTVClient.
I leave my SageTV Server and my SageTVClient on 24/7 and do not have any power management settings enabled on either machines (hd, display standby). I actually just reinstalled the client PC from scratch with XP Pro SP1 and latest patches, PVR250 1.7 latest driver, sagerecorder, latest version of M-Audio Revolution drivers, girder, nvidia drivers, ati remote 1.5, sagetvclient. I usually put SageTVClient to sleep when I leave it. Sometimes when I come back to wake it from sleep it as back at the main menu and my remote does not work. If I use the mouse I can do anything. I exited girder and the remote wonder software and started them again and SageTVClient still did not respond. I then used my preprogrammed buttons on my remote to close and start SageTVClient and everything works fine again. I am suspecting that what is happening is that I lose a connection and when it recoonnects some how the thread that handles commands has died or exited. I have not actuallly seen a disconnect in a week or so if it is happening at all. Has any one seen this? Any ideas. Thanks, John

One of the things I did was go through all my USB devices to make sure the computer wouldn't put them to sleep and that the device would wake the computer. I have a similar setup on my client except I am not using SageRecorder and I have a Streamzap remote. The only issue I have is when I put the PC to sleep my USB receiver for the remote stops working completely. When I press a remote button the red led does not blink. I press the power button on the PC to wake it up. Not ideal but it works. I thought the receiver would work because the USB keyboard and mouse does. Maybe make sure the USB receiver for your remote does not go to sleep.

Thanks Gerry,
My system never goes to sleep. When I say I put SageTVClient to sleep I mean it goes to the SageTV Screensaver where the SageTV Icon moves around the screen. Since I am able to use the remote to close SageTV and then Opne it again, Girder sends a close message to the program and the launch it using girder, I am positve my remote is still working. I am fairly certain that SageTVClient is some how losing its ability receive any commands. John

Thanks for the clarification. That is strange because I am using your gml file. I have one client utilizing the ATI Remote and the other using the Streamzap remote. I have not seen this issue. The only othe rthing I made sure of was in Power Management to make sure that the monitor and hard drives do not power down.
(FYI-for the ATI remote I am using the X10-ATI plugin from Girder that allows me to map every single button on the remote, including TV,DVD, etc. Not sure if you were aware of that.) Gerry

Where did you get that plugin?
Mine does not allow me to map all the buttons. Thanks, John

Gerry,
Could you post your modified version of my GML file so I don't have to redo all my remote buttons? Thanks, John

It's a little different than what you may expect but I will do that after work tonight. It might be easier if you pm me an email address. Thanks in advance.

jptaz, Can you reproduce this if you unplug the ethernet cable to simulate a network dropout while the SageTVClient screensaver is active?

Jeff,
I will give it a try and see if I have the same problem if I pull the network cable. Thanks, John

Jeff,
I tried just pulling the network cable and I got the exact same behavior. From sleep it comes back to the main menu. I reinsert the network cable and the Remote commands do not work and neither do the keyboard commands, but the mouse works and I can do everything normally. I also noticed that when I am really pushing the Client inteface at the same time that I am recording using sagerecorder over the network as a network encoder that the remote and key board stop working too, but again the mouse worked. Any ideas? Thanks, John

This'll be fixed in SageTV2. It seems to only occur when there's a connection failure while the client has the screensaver active.

Thanks Jeff,
A fix that I have tried that gerry suggested is to set the network to 100 full duplex instead of auto detect. So far today I have not seen any disconnects. I hope this will help things for now. Thanks, John
