Hauppauge 500...not tuning in SageTV

I have a 150 and a 500 tuner card installed. The 150 card tunes fine, but the 500 card does not seem to tune. I've changed drivers several times, I've put cards in different slots and changed IRQ's. I believe that the 500 card is just NOT tuning. The tuners are recognized, but he picture is very snowy and the sound is garbled. But, it IS trying to play the channel that it should be playing. (or channels, since it is dual tuners.) I have each of the 3 tuners / video sources set up in sage exactly the same way. (cable input, etc...)

Before giving up on this card, I want to verify that its not a setup problem within Sage. Thus, I need a quick and easy way to view the TV through these tuners with Sage shut down. Any suggestions?..( I do not have the Win TV application installed that came with the Hauppauge cards and would prefer not to.)

If it tunes outside of Sage, then I am looking for a Sage config problem....If not, then I can focus on my system setup or card setup..

Thanks for any help,

Gary Ellis

FYI...I have cable input coming directly in and not through a settop cable box. I have it split 4 ways....1 to each Hauppauge tuner and the 4th to the cable settop box.

When I set up video sources, I did each exactly the same...

Input type : TV Tuner cable input
Time Warner cable...digital...extended basic

So you are actually viewing your analog cable channels, right? If you are going right from the wall into your CPU, then you aren't viewing the digital channels.

If you connect one of (or, perhaps, all) those coax lines directly to a TV what do you get? Clear picture?

If I connect them directly to my TV I get the same channels that come through on my 150 card..which are channels 2 through 77...

I don't get the digital channels above that which come through the settop cable box.

Since I set up the 500 tuners the same as my 150 tuner, then I would expect to get the same channels through them...and like I said, I am getting the channels, just very snowy and very garbled.

Thanks for trying to help...I know there is a pretty simple answer somewhere..

How many splits are in your cable line already? The 500 adds another internally. Perhaps try removing a splitter & connecting the 500 farther up the line just to test & see what happens.

that's kinda what I was getting at as well. Are there too many splits to maintain the signal strength?

Again, is the TV picture crystal clear when you hook up the coax? Or somewhat fuzzy?

Crystal clear...

Put we may be on to something...I am going to try to reconfigure the cables coming into the house tomorrow and test this out.

My cable coming from the Street is split 4 ways.

Internet
upstairs TV
downstairs TV
home theater splitter

The cable to the home theater splitter is split 3 ways...

cable settop box
150 tuner
500 tuner

and the 500 tuner is really splitting again because it is 2 tuners in 1.

so, let me drag some cable around and see what happens.

Thanks,

Gary

Ok..I pulled cable from the street into the 500 tuner card..The sound was a little louder, but the video was still very garbled...It did seem to get a little less garbled at channels above 33..(not sure why)

I took that cable and connected it to the 150 tuner card instead and it was crystal clear.

I then loaded Win TV.. The video through the 150 card was excelent...but when I switched the cable to the 500 tuner card it was garbled, still...Thus, the 500 card does not tune in or outside of Sage..

So, I beleive its time to call Hauppauge and declare a "bad card"

Any thoughts?

Since it isn't working anywhere, I would say that is a good course of action.
