experimental_video_thumbnail_generation property?

I saw this property while looking through sage.properties and it *sounds* exactly like something I would like to have Sage do, but changing it from false (the default) to true doens't seem to make anything new happen. Is this because of its "experimental" label or is there a way to make this work like it sounds?

It is 'experimental'. You're using service mode, right? I think one of the experimental aspects is that it won't generate those thumbnails for any sort of client UI... and the service uses a client as the UI. Edit: Oh, and I don't think it does much of anything for recordings, but it might make thumbnails for imported videos.

I've left it enabled for awhile now and have noticed that the thumbnails display in the placeshifter client for recordings, if you don't have a channel logo, and imported videos if you don't have a folder.jpg.

Does it only seem to have an effect on the placeshifter client, or does it also make thumbnails for the "imported videos if you don't have a folder.jpg" on the server itself? Because that's exactly what I'm looking for (similar to what MCE does).

Actually I haven't looked at the server in a while now, but yes the thumbnails will show on the server if you're not running as a service. They won't show on sage clients as Opus said

Hmm. I'm running the server NOT in service mode and have the property set to true, but don't seem to be getting anything from it. Anything I can do to "force" the creation of the thumbnails, or ways to sort of kick-start it? Do you only get it on certain filetypes?

Did you edit the properties file while Sage wasn't running (is experimental_video_thumbnail_generation still true?), and did you edit sage.properties?

It's working now. I didn't realize that 1) some videos I had without folder.jpg apparently don't show properly (WMVHD) and 2) I needed to highlight each video clip to get it to generate the thumbnail.
