Placeshifter in Paris
We're on vacation in Paris with Sagetv... The hotel has dsl in the room and we are placeshifting without a hitch to NY. Its even working great on my crappy old Pentium III laptop. Not that we're spending much time at the hotel, but when we are here, my 2yr old daughter is able to get her fill of oobi and dora. I even quickly installed placeshifter when we visited someone's home to entertain my daughter. Of course, it blew everyone away that saw we could watch tv from the USA.
Thanks to Sagetv for a great innovation. Now if I can only get the French world cup revelers to quiet down .

I did the same thing when I was in London in May. Beautiful thing, isn't it?

Sure enough the TV set in the room dies about 20 minutes before it starts. So, the maintenance guy comes, makes sure we weren't idiots and that we knew how to use a TV set then goes to get another TV. He comes back and we fire up placeshifter to watch our show from our home server in Richmond. He spent more time asking us how we were doing that than fixing the TV! Stacy |

"Placeshifter in Paris"... is that that new horror movie
But in all seriousness, yup, Placeshifter rocks. I was in Portland a couple weeks ago and of course the hotel's cable sucked and there was nothing good on. Fire up the placeshifter and watched all my good pre-recorded stuff. |

I recently traveled for work, and tried to use the mini version of placeshifter on my work computer. but my attempts were futile because it doesn't have java on it. and I don't have admin rights. downloading the full quality takes too long.
I just need to convince one of the IT guys at work that java is needed for one of the programs that I use on the laptop. (I know there are other ways to transcode, but don't feel have the time to play with it.) |
