Why does the MVP switch MAC addresses with sagetv.
I finally fixed my MVP by pulling out Ethereal and sniffed my network.
What I found was what I had a hunch on. I use MAC level filtering on my AP for a bit more protection then my standard WEP offers me. I found out that after the Hauppauge screen loads on the MPV the device changes it's MAC address when sagetv starts up. They write down the MAC address on the side of wireless units these days for people like me that want to allow access to only certain MAC addresses. Switching to a non advertised MAC seems like very poor design. Is it Hauppauge doing this because sagetv is a 3rd party software running on it? Or is Sagetv forcing this? Even though my MVP now works because I have added the second MAC to the access list, I would like to know who made this design decision and for what reason? |

This is already fixed in the current test version and should be included in the next release.
