If you're a HD HTPC freak like so many others, you are probably in love with kzeuh's version of DScaler that does real-time 3:2 pulldown and film detection on 1080i content (
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=596942). DScaler is already the best quality MPEG2 decoder, so when you add IVTC to the equation, you get the best possible HD image...unless you're a SageTV user, because it doesn't work with Sage.
I'm trying to switch over to use SageTV with all my video content, but haven't been able to get kzeuh's version of DScaler to work correctly. A typical 1080i TS file is always incredibly choppy, like 3 frames per second.
It has nothing to do with my CPU (Pentium 4 2.4GHz Northwood) because the CPU utilization of SageTV.exe only floats around 5% and never exceeds 10%. In comparison to Media Player Classic, which plays the file flawlessly, the CPU utilization averages 50% and never exceeds 70%. When I switch SageTV's decoder to the SageTV decoder, the file plays fine, with CPU utilization hovering around 30%. So this obviously has nothing to do with my computer's power, but with SageTV.
I thought I found a solution when I checked out ReClock. The video actually played smoothly, but the audio was always out of sync. The 500ms default pre-buffering time in ReClock actually meant a 500ms delay in SageTV. The video would start, then the audio would start 500ms later. The lower I set the pre-buffering time, the more the file plays choppy. Of course, this wasn't the case in Media Player Classic.
Maybe all of this can give someone an idea of how to solve this problem. You can get kzeuh's latest version of the mod on the bottom of page 3 on the forum thread.
