Sage Client (v5) Issue: Switch to Full screen causes crash
Search turned up nothing, so I thought I'd ask if anyone else has seen this. Whenever I try to switch to fullscreen on my Sage Client box, the client just crashes. No error messages, nothing. The window just shuts down and task manager shows that it isn't running anymore. I have to start up the client at least 3 - 4 times every time before it will finally open the fullscreen window succesfully.
Other problems I have which may be associated with this: 1) Any time I start video playback, I always get the error that there is a problem with the codec. All I have to do is go to settings and change to any other codec than the one I am on and it immediately starts working. 2) No matter what I try to do, the sizing of a recorded video jumps to slightly larger than the width of my screen. The menus and all are fine, it's just when I play a video. The specs are: Athlon XP 2600+ 512Mb of memory eVGA 6800GT Video card Windows XP - SP2 (fully updated) |

It sounds like you're using VMR and Full Screen Exclusive mode (FSE). If you are that's most likely the problem. FSE helps in achieving smooth playback, but is very buggy. It works great for some people and not at all for others.
If it's on try turning it off and that should fix the problem. If playback is not smooth without it then you can turn it back work around it a little. For example running java v1.4.2 seems to help reduce the frequency of lockups. Also if you always launch and close Sage from fullscreen (never go from fullscreen to windowed) the problem doesn't occur much at all. I've also heard that v5.1 is supposed to have some fixes for FSE mode, but it will probably be a little while before it's out. Avoiding the fullscreen to window problem will also help with your other problem #1. #2 sounds like the overscan setting for the aspect ratio. It's discussed on p170 of the manual. |
