Feature request: movie rating
It would be good to list a movie in the EPG grid with its rating; this would help to make viewing decisions. Zap2It has this information, so it's a matter of transferring it to the display, perhaps as stars after the movie title as is done in DishTV and ExpressVu.

Also, I stumbled upon a trick, you do a search for "All Fields" and put *** for 3 star and up rated shows or **** for 4 star and up rated shows. Then you can browse through the list and record the ones you want. |

If you use one of the Malore Guide menus and Group by Star Rating you can then look at the individual movies that are in that grouping. So for instance if you only want to watch 4 star movies then just look through the entries under 4 stars.
I included a couple of graphics showing what I'm talking about. This isn't exactly what you were asking for but works fairly well as an alternative. You will need to turn on the Secret Extras to display these menus however. BobP. |

Perhaps...
I'd really like to see MPAA and VCHIP ratings show up in the guide and recordings screens. Malore's recordings screens show the VCHIP rating, but for some reason (at least on my setup) the MPAA ratings seem to always show [CA]???? I have two young children and prefer to scan by the rating to quickly eliminate inappropriate viewing options. It would also be great if you could setup user recordings so that favorites could be lumped together in groups by who's favorite they are.

Would Parental Controls help in this instance? I don't know exactly how they work. If you set parental controls to say, restrict shows of a rating of "R" or higher, exactly what happens? Does the EPG display any indication that the shows are restricted? Does the EPG still display the shows, or do you just have to enter an unlock code to view the channel/recording.
Ideally, it would be nice to either have the EPG not show the restricted choices at all, or at least indicate in some way (by color, icon, or outline) that the show is restricted with Parental Controls.

[CA] stands for Commercial Advance, and it is used to indicate in the SageTV Recordings menu, shows that have a comskip file. So it's a bug when shown in the guides.
My menus don't prominently display the MPAA rating because I don't record a lot of movies and depending on the channel they can be meaningless. But it is listed in the show's description along with the extended ratings information (Sex, Violence, Language, etc.). You can also group by rating, so you can look at only the G or PG movies if you like. Parental Controls just make you enter a password everytime you try to view something above the ratings control. See my post about enhancing this. Last edited by malore; 09-08-2006 at 02:18 PM. |
