Does the linux version require a desktop manager..

like Gnome or KDE?
I'd rather not have to use any, if it's possible.

Oh, and can you transfer your wiz files across platforms (from windows to linux)?

You don't need a window manager, the install cd doesn't install one.

I think you can transfer you wiz files but I have never tried it.

I've transferred my wiz.bin file in the past, in order to keep my favorites and viewing history. I didn't worry about the recordings -- they were still listed, since it couldn't read their paths to check file existence, so I just deleted the recordings via the Delete command to remove their entries.
