Setup Wizard cannot see video preview
So...I've gotten to the point that SageTV is installed and running and I'm going through the Setup Wizard. When I get to the part to configure my tuner cards, I see both of them listed, however, when I select TUNER, I don't see the video and I receive the error:
There was a Playback Error in playback. Details: sage.PlaybackException the log file shows the following: Code:

This problem apparently could be audio related. I'm getting the following during boot:
CS4232 soundcard not found or device busy CS4232 soundcard not found or device busy No WaveFront cards found or devices busy No WaveFront cards found or devices busy I'm running a VIA chipset with what I thought was an 82xx soundcard built into it. Any ideas? |

Here's the soundcard line from lspci if this helps:
00:11.5 Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8233/A/8235/8237 AC97 Audio Controller (rev 50) Don't know why it's trying to load the 4232 on boot. How do I change the card that alsa is trying to load? |

|
|||
|

You cab try running alsamixer to know if the sound card is detected or not.

Well...I ran alsaconf and it detected and configured the card. I ran alsamixer and everything looks normal. I checked the modules files and the correct soundcard is listed. If I restart alsa, it looks like it is loading the right card.
HOWEVER...on boot, it still tries to load the 4232 driver and fails. And SageTV won't display video or audio. I had to recompile the kernel to get the ati-drivers to work properly. Do I need to emerge the alsa-drivers again or should the changes I made above be sufficient to get this working? |

|
|||
Well...this is not related to the soundcard. I've got that working fine now. I'm still getting the video error when trying to configure my capture cards (PVR-250s).
Anyone have ideas on what this could be? |

If you recompiled your kernel you will also need to recompile ivtv. You can see if it's installed properly by running dmesg and looking for the ivtv loading messages.

I reinstalled everything since then and did the kernel compile before I installed SageTV. Here is my ivtv output in dmesg:

manual tv...
Try manually watching some tv. I only have 1 tuner card but what you might want to do is check out what the input numbers are for your 2 tuners from ivtvctl. Then double check that sage has the same numbers. I was having problems because sage thought my svideo was at a different location than it was. Just an attempt, but knowing whether you can actually watch tv without sagetv is a start. Try cat /dev/video0 > test.mpg once you have the card tuned. The second card might be somthing else so make sure they both work. Yo can also do "mplayer /dev/video0"

we need logs
Hi all,
Good to hear you resolved your network issue. The sage.PlaybackException caused me many hours of grief. When I worked with Sage tech support they had me switch sage into debug mode and send them the logs as I recreated the problems I was having. You already found sagetv_0.txt but there are other logs. Can you please post Xorg.0.log found in /var/log/. This will tell us what drivers are being loaded for X. Also in the client directory in /opt/sagetv edit the sageclient.sh to read: #java -cp MiniClient.jar:. sage.miniclient.MiniClient $1 $2 2>&1 > /dev/null java -cp MiniClient.jar:. sage.miniclient.MiniClient $1 $2 &> miniclient.log Once you make the edit to sageclient.sh, reboot the machine and recreate the exception. Then ctrl-alt-backspace to kill X. Then copy the Xorg.0.log and minilog.txt to the forum. The minilog.txt file will have bloody-gorey details on the exception. Given those 2 log files we can pin point exactly (video, sound, other) what's not working. Thank you George Oms (sage tech support) for how to get logs out of sagetv.

Trying to find the route cause of a dreaded playbackexception error. Modified the client startup script as mentioned here. The logfile gets created but only has one line in saying "Starting MiniClient" even after I recreate my problem. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
