girder and the pvr-250 remote

I'm just starting to investigate using girder with SageTV. Unfortunately I was unable to determine if a girder plugin exists that will allow me to use the remote that came with the PVR-250 to generate events. Does anyone know of one? OTOH, what I'd really like is to find some way to use my TiVo remote with girder. Does anyone know what hardware/software I'd need to make that happen?

You don't need a Girder plugin to use a remote control with Girder... you can teach Girder all of the remote's buttons in about 10 minutes.

Girder + USB-UIRT will work with virtually any IR remote control.

There is NOT a Girder plugin that will work with the included receiver/remote of the PVR 250. As you know when you install SageTV it CAN support that setup within the Sage TV program.
As salsbst mentions above the USB-UIRT works excellent in this situation. I use the same receiver. The USB-UIRT is also a blaster which can transmit channel changes to your cable box. An excellent product. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies. I've considered USB-UIRT but $58 seems like a lot right now, especially since I have a remote that works (the one that came with the PVR-250). The only thing I have against it is that SageTV has to have the focus for it to work. Another mark against getting the USB-UIRT is that my current setup is temporary. Someday (when SageTV supports Closed Captioning and when I can find a reasonably priced client like an integrated MediaMVP), my current machine will be a server and I'll be watching on the other TVs in the house. At that point I'll have to use a remote with the client and I doubt that USB-UIRT will be an option at that point.

I get the sense that you're talking about a transceiver rather than a remote?

I'm talking about the receiver, not the transmitter. I'm using the serial connector to change channels on the cable box, so I don't need the ir blaster side. I'm only trying to control SageTV with a remote - when it doesn't have the focus...

In that case sorry for giving you a bit of nonsense earlier. I misunderstood.

I for one knew from the get-go that I wanted flexibility and power, and the Girder/USB-UIRT combo is hard to beat there. The receivers that come with TV cards are generally designed not to support 3rd party apps like Girder, whereas the USB-UIRT was built first and foremost to support Girder. For a multipurpose HTPC that uses many different apps to do its jobs, its very tough to beat that combo.
