What do you think of the upgrade policy?

I have nothing else to do right now so I figured I waste some time to see what other people though about the upgrade policy...
I hope I covered most choices...

YES on Features means you think there are enough new features to justify a new release
No on Features means you think there were not enough new features to justify a new release

Yes on Grace period means that you think Sage is fine with Just V5 users getting a free upgrade upgrade..
No on Grace period means that you think Sage should have allows V4 and V5 users a free upgrade..

If I had to pay $30 every year to upgrade I'd be fine with it. For what SageTV does thats damn cheap.

Not exactly. I believe the new features do justify a new release. I'm just personnally not interested in them and would like to see a v5 maintenance release.

Are the new features worth the upgrade? If not, don't. It's that simple.

Maybe they should change their policy and just make everyone pay for an upgrade. Or maybe do it like the antivirus people do. Make the first year of access to updates included in the purchase price and then require a $30 annual subscription for continued access. Boy, you think some people are ticked off now....

IMHO - Subscription should be a no no......but if they want to charge for substantial upgrades......thats fine.

As always- check out the new features- don't like - don't upgrade.......but things like support for tuner cards etc should not be classified as a substantial upgrade.

Sorry if it wasn't clear. I was being a bit sarcastic and just making the point that things could certainly be worse than they are.

It wasn't that long ago that I bought a license for the MeedioTV addon and within two weeks or so, they announced that Meedio had sold to Yahoo and the EPG service would be discontinued in a few months. I never even got to install and use that license. Talk about feeling slighted!

Aloha,
Mike
