Will Placeshifter Work For Me?
I'm a student away from home at college and I've been using Sage for quite a while in my dorm. But I had an interesting idea that I wanted to run by everyone here before I go forward...
I'm a big Cleveland Indians, Cavs and Browns fan but since I'm out of state I miss most of the games. Would Placeshifter allow me to set up an HTPC at my home in Ohio and stream the TV at home out to my computer here at school in Pennsylvania so I could see the games? Couple more questions... 1) Would the school's firewall interfere at all with the streaming to my computer here? (p2p sharing programs and other things like that are blocked) 2) Am I'm correct in assuming I can change the channel in Ohio through placeshifter using my computer here at college? Everyone here has been a great help thus far in my HTPC development. Thanks for all the help!! |

The Placeshifter would have control over all recordings, Favorites, etc., on the main system, just like the UI on the main system does. In terms of the firewall, it depends on whether they block the port the Placeshifter uses. It connects via port 31099, but there are ways to change that port, if needed.
