Switching from Regular to Service: Propreties File Help

Hello,

I just finished moving my Sage installation from a client/server on one machine to a client/server on seperate machine setup.

I succesfully moved my wiz.bin and properties files from the one machine to the new machine that will be the server. I, of course, added a couple of tuners for good measure , so I made some changes to the properties file.

The problem -

I setup the new server with Sage running in regular mode, to play and get it just right. Now, when I try to switch to the service mode, it seems like SageService is not using the updated properties file, but instead is starting new.

I don't want to loose my old properties and wiz.bin information, and the added tuners I have already configured.

How can I make sure that SageService is running using the properties and wiz.bin files I carefully moved and tweaked just right when switching to service mode ?

I am running the current Sage release (not beta) on a Windows XP Home machine.

Thanks in advance !

Unless you were using the command line parameter to specify a different properties file to be used, the service should be using the same properties file as the UI used when not in service mode -- sage.properties, found in your SageTV installation directory.

Do you have other properties files and/or wiz.bion files someplace?

Sage should still use sage.properties for SageService. What you may be seeing is that when you start up the UI on the server, it runs the setup again. This is the setup for the UI and that info is saved in sageclient.properties.

Thanks guys for your replies.

I have tried again, this time going through the wizard once I start the Sage front end on the server machine.

Here is what I have found out ... and to answer your questions;
  • I am not using any command line parameters
  • the properties and wiz.bin files are the only ones (except for the back up copies I have on the server's desktop
  • if I am running the service, before or after going through the wizard, the client (on a different machine), or my placeshifter client can't connect to the server (which runs properly when in regular mode)
  • if I am running the service I can't connect to the web server (which runs properly when in regular mode)
  • even after waiting several minutes, no future recordings are visible. It is as if the server running in service mode doesn't see the favourites. This works just fine in regular mode

So, I have reverted to using regular mode for the time being ...

The only other thing that might have something to do with my problem:

The server is a Compaq desktop that came with XP Home pre-installed. No real recovery disks, just the images provided by Compaq.

When I look at the process under task manager when in regular mode, it is running under user "Compaq_Owner". Could this be the problem ?

Under regular mode, it is running under "Compaq_Owner". Running under the service mode, I didn't look, but it is probably running under "LocalSystem".

I am at a complete loss

TIA.

If you allowed SageTV through your firewall, now you'll need to give access to the service.

If you are trying to access network locations as import or recording dirs, the service will need to use UNC paths & log in as a user w/a password and have permission to access those network locations.

Yes, I did allow it through the firewall initially (WinXP) and have not under the service. I will try that. However, it doesn't explain why Sage is not listing any future recrdoings.

I was all over that ... unfortunately, that's not the case. The recordings folder are local and the imports on the other servers (content) are already UNC.

I will try again tomorrow (it's prime time and Sage is waayyy too busy ) and see if I can sort this out. I am obviously missing something.

Thanks for your help.
