USB-UIRT Ignoring button pushes?

Hello all,

I just upgraded to the USB-UIRT and am using the hauppauge 45-button remote with it. It appears to work GREAT, but there's just one small problem... It seems to be ignoring every other button push.

For example, if I'm on the main menu, and I push the "down" button, it'll go down. If i push it again, it does nothing. If i push it a third time, it goes down, etc. etc.

It does this with every button push. I have to push the button twice for it to recognize one push.

The red light on the USB-UIRT is lighting up with EVERY push, so I'm not really sure where to go with this.

My hardware setup is as follows: ECS K8M800-M2 motherboard, AMD Sempron 2800+, 1GB Corsair XMS ram, ATI Radeon 9250 128mb video, onboard sound, zyxel wifi card, USB-UIRT.

Does anyone have any ideas?

EDIT* By the way, i'm not pushing the button immediately after another push. I can still give it 5-10 seconds and it'll still ignore the 2nd button push.

Your remote sends 2 different codes for each button. You need to program both codes for each button.

This should really be in the manual. Thank goodness for a working forum search.

I ran into the same problem years ago. That seems to be a really stupid design for a remote control. The two alternating codes can easily be seen using the free LrnHelper program.

Do you mean that it should be in the SageTV manual? If so, see p. 189 where it discusses "Link Infrared/Keystroke to SageTV Command". It even explains how to teach both IR codes.

Hey Andy,

Well, I recall reading that but maybe the language wasn't clear to me. I think I assumed it was talking about one-button toggles like power and mute. Maybe you guys could add a couple of bullet points:

* If every other button press is being ignored, your remote is sending out two unique codes for each button, and SageTV needs to learn both.

* If every one button press is causing duplicate actions, you will need to adjust IR repeat period and IR repeat delay in SageTV(Client).properties

Maybe the instructions should simply be to learn each button 3 times, period. If you get the same code every time - great, no harm done. If you get 2 different codes, you know you've got a remote with "toggle-style" buttons. If you get 3 unique codes, one of them was probably a bad read - start over.

Better yet, the remote teaching procedure built in to the UI should just prompt you to press each button a second time as a confirmation.
