Slow Motion Playback
Every now and then, one of the Sage recorded shows will playback in as if in slow motion (ie about half normal speed). If I play it back using say WinDVD, it plays fine. Has anyone else seen this? Is there a solution to the problem?
Karen

On the other side of the coin - I would love a feature where one can playback in slow motion but I'm not sure if that is available (outside of holding the pause key down).

I see that problem every once in a while as well. I was never really able to reprocude it but it still sometimes occurs. Usually, pressing FF or REW switches back to the normal playback speed.

I've written up problem reports, to no avail. Sage's response suggest I'm the only one with the problem. It is less frequent now since I changed PCs. I'm uising Sage V4 on both old and current PC. When it gets into this slo-mo mode, all recorded shows become slo-mo. Sound and video. The work-around cure I have discovered is: Start playback of show. Go to setup menus and choose "RELOAD MEDIA PLAYER" Start playback again. (I speculate that this is a design error in the way Sage interfaces to the Microsoft libraries) |

Nope, you're not alone. I haven't seen too many instances of it, though - only to or three out of what must be several thousand recordings by now.

apparently too few have filed problem reports and/or sage hasn't correlated them

i too get this problem occasionally, but i can never link it to anything specific.
a couple of things i was suspecting: i have sage saving recordings to a linux fileserver--maybe some networking issues? my htpc is connected to a ups. i think the battery must be dying, because it would often initiate a shutdown or logoff (when i turned the monitor on and checked, it would be sitting at the windows login prompt). i disabled the auto-shutdown feature, and since then, i'm pretty sure the slowdowns have occurred less frequently. still does happen every once in a while, though. i think related to this, sometimes i find that some recordings have sections which are sped up. it's not the playback, it's the recording itself. i think this happens when sage is recording a program and it goes into that "slowdown" state (probably something eating up cpu time), so that it can't write the video stream to file fast enough. |

This has happened to me on a handful of occasions. I have found that stopping and restarting sage works for me. I would be upset about it except that it's only happened 2-3 times so far (in over a year of use) and I can fix the problem. It's not like, say, the problem where hitting FF skips to a random spot in the recording.

Slo-mo me too
Funny that this just happened to me after about four years of using Sage. This is the first occurance, yet has happened to two recordings within a week. One was BSG and the other was Holy...(new show on Versus network). I was able to see both in Media Player. I'll try to restart Sage next time.
Just wanted to let you know you are not alone. |

I used to have this problem every once and a while....I think it's related to which decoders you're using as well. I haven't had it happen with nvidia for video and sagetv for audio. BUT, now sometimes I get no audio; pushing stop followed by playing a different video, then returning to the problem one always fixes it. It always has happened at the start of playback for me...I've never encountered this problem with any other media player.

happens to me using vanilla Sage - their default decoder, local disk, no customization.
As said above, the reliable cure for me is to play, "RELOAD MEDIA PLAYER", then play again. Stop/pause/play doesn't fix it. |
