Imported video plays back dark on MVP
Is there any way to modify the brightness of imported videos (divx, xvid) played back on the MVP? I've seen the endless discussions about the overall brightness of the MVP, but I only have the issue when I play back imported videos. Otherwise the brightness level of my MVP for Live TV and Recorded TV is fine.
Thanks! |

Did you jack up your levels on your encoder cards? The only fix for this is plugging the MVP into another device, such as a DVD player or VCR... Or there is a modification of removing a resistor that is the top thread in this forum. Someone also posted Hauppuage took his MVP in for warranty for this dark issue. Maybe they finally have a fix for this...

cranking up encoders may fix MVP problem but breaks non-MVP viewing, right?

Yeah, pretty much. I asked because I would think shows you are recording would be dark as well, unless you turned up the settings in the encoder settings.
When I was running my MVP directly to the tv, I found the opposite to be true actually. Stuff I had downloaded, like tv shows or whatever, would usually look a bit better (not as dark), compared to stuff I encoded myself. If you have a VCR or DVD player with a video input you might also want to try that. Do these imported videos look normal on other clients, assuming you have one? |
