Imported Videos... with folders?
Can the Imported Videos screen be made to show a folder structure (catagories)?
I'm going to be coping several videos to Sage and would like it if I could prevent sage from dumping everything to one screen. I tried copying the data up to the server and using sub folders, but it appears Sage just ignores that. |

What version of SageTV are you using? I'm using version 5 and it shows subfolders with no problem.
If the import path was C:\videos and it contains a sci-fi folder and drama folder you should see those folders in the imported videos menu. But if you have two import paths, say C:\movies and D:\shows, it would combine everything into one big listing. |

I'm running 5.0.4.92.
I only have one Import Folder defined in Sage. It's still lumping everything into one listing. |

Like Malore said, if you create a main folder called say "movie", then create subfolders under that called say "chick flicks" and "classics", then Sage will bring up 2 different named folders...i.e., "chick flicks" and "classics".
I would like to see another tier or 2 of subfolders, but it doesn't seem to do that. One good thing I have found is that if you have the same subfolder name on 2 different import drives, sage will seamlessly combine them as 1 folder with the same name. Malore, is there an easy way to include a picture on the folder or on the entries within the folder. "Easy" meaning just save a picture somewhere and tie it to the file. Hope this helps, Gary |

With 6.0, I have the following structure:
videos/Movies/Kids/ videos/Movies/Adults/ videos/TV/Kids/JoJo/ videos/TV/Kids/Stanley/ videos/TV/Kids/Beakman's World/ videos/TV/Adults/24/ videos/TV/Adults/Lost/ videos/TV/Adults/Everybody Hates Chris/ Media Center --> Imported Videos shows: v5 8 folders: Kids Adults JoJo Stanley Beakman's World 24 Lost Everybody Hates Chris v6 2 folders: Movies TV then, each of the above has subfolders. this is PERFECT |

edit: Nevermind. I realize now that this is imported videos not in the Recordings section. |

Go to "Options" on the left hand side and choose "Folder View" instead of "List View"

So, big change then for v6....great..that will be nice..
Now do you know how to get a picture on the folders in the menu...? |

You can add a picture by having a file "folder.jpg" in the directory. See page 93 of the version 5 SageTV_Manual.pdf for information about folder structure and thumbnail images.

SageTV won't load an image for a folder, though, only for the video itself.
I don't remember if v5 shows a thumbnail for any videos in a folder or if it only displays a folder image, but v6 will show the first few videos in a row when using a single column display. If using a multi-column display for the folder view, it will show the first video's thumbnail. Use the Options command to customize how a View is displayed in any of the imported media browsers. Also, in v6, you can choose whether to display your import folders as combined, like v5 did, or list each import dir separately. In either case, any subfolders will be shown as you browse into each folder. - Andy

That image is for one of the videos in that folder, though, unless you've added some modifications. I just loaded the v5 Video Lib menu and see that some folders show a thumbnail on top of the blue folder image & some don't. For whatever reason, it doesn't show a thumbnail for a video in a subfolder in some situations. V6 will now always show a thumbnail, if one is available.

The image on the folder is from the folder.jpg file I added to the directory, just so I could test how it worked. I switched to the default SageTV3.xml (5/22/06) and it displayed the same.

Maybe we're saying the same thing in a different way? folder.jpg is used as the thumbnail for a video in that folder & in some cases, v5 will display a video's thumbnail on top of the blue folder icon, but in other cases, it won't do so. Page 93 of the v5 manaul shows a situation where the folder icon has no thumbnail included with it, due to the folder/file structure within that folder. That's just one of the side effects of v5's video lib. A little Studio work can change that.

Is there a way in v6 to have each main folder display a specific image rather than cycling through in folder view and using a multi column display??
