HD ?: Will Sage Transcode Live HDTV to stream to MVP?
Hi,
I'm really wanting to take the plunge on Sage TV but I still have a couple of things to figure out. Here's my situation: My only quality TV source is OTA HDTV. Analog is very fuzzy. I live too far out for cable and I have too many trees for DirectTV/Dish Network. Thus I need to use SageTV with an HD card(s). I have several standard TVs that I'd like to feed with either a Sage client or the MVP. Here's the questions: 1. Will the Sage server stream live HD to the Sage Client software? The description in the SageTV HD Media Center In-a-Box info suggests that it does. 2. I know the MVP cannot decode an HD stream. However, can the Sage server transcode the live HD broadcast into something the MVP can process? Thanks for your time! |

Yes it can, but it needs pretty decent horsepower (probably at least 3.x Ghz but ymmv) to transcode HD for the MVP in 'real-time'. Keep in mind that "live tv" isn't really live. It's always being recorded, only with a delay of a few seconds from true live tv.
