How does 6.0.13 parse .mov and .hdmov ?

I have configured 6.0.13 to always use dshow filter, and when I play a .mov or .hdmov file, Sage squeals like a pig and then crashes. Before it crashes, though, ffdshow audio decoder manages to tell me that it's receiving an mp2 stream. Now, if I play the same .mov file in GraphEdit, it's apparent that it's an AAC 5.1 stream, and ffdshow can handle it just fine. WMP10 also can play the file just fine.

I have set up QuickTime Alternative 1.76 to parse the .mov file by default. So... what is Sage doing differently?
