4194 megabyte recording limit

I was wondering if someone could tell me why SageRecoder won't record more than 4,194 megabytes (which is about an hour and forty-four minutes on standard DVD quality)? I'm NOT running out of disk space. I've got a 500Gb drive that I'm recording on. But EVERY recording I try (with the trial version) hits this limit and stops recording. Is this maybe one of the limits of the trial version? If I could be sure the full version doesn't have this limit I'd buy the software right away.

Thanks,

R.J.

Are you really using SageTVRecorder? Just so you know: that is an older product and won't be updated for newer encoder cards. SageTV has support for newer tuners. Anyway...

I think you are running into a file size limit for the type of disk format you are using -- I believe 4GB is the limit for FAT32. NTFS can have much larger files. How is your drive formatted?

My disk is formatted as FAT32. I'll convert it to NTFS and see what happens.

Thanks,

That's an odd comment considering how many of us use SageRecorder as a network encoder.

It has been said for a long time that SageRecorder is no longer under development and doesn't support all the new tuners. The suggested method for running network encoders is to use SageTV instead of SageRecorder. Alot of people may still use it, but it is the old way of doing things.

I said that for 2 reasons:
  1. Lately, most posts in this section of the forum have been from new forum members who don't realize that SageTVRecorder is a separate application, not the portion of SageTV that handles the recording job.
  2. Before he bought SageTVRecorder to use as a network encoder, or whatever, I figured I would make sure he knew it was an older product that is no longer being updated to work with newer tuners.

Sure, but SageRecorder was actively updated not that long ago (about a year?), and it would be nice to know it will continue to work with future Sage server versions, even if small tweaks are neccesary, lest people like me are forced to buy new versions of Sage just so I can use a sat receiver in another room.

Time flies.

The last updated version of SageTVRecorder was announced on 6-29-2004 (sticky thread in this forum section). It can still be used with the hardware it supported at that time, but it will not be updated in the future as far as I know. SageTV is the product that handles recordings on supported tuners that came out after that. SageTVRecorder is essentially considered obsolete, since SageTV can act as both the network encoder and client at the same time.
