Angry Guide showing no data at all

I just recently switch my media center from my main computer to my smaller computer. Everything works except the guide doesn't show any information. No show info, no channels, nothing. I had it working yesterday, but then it stopped, and then started working again. Today displays nothing and it's been about 4 or 5 hrs working on it.

When watching tv I can pull show info. I can even set favorites, but nothing displays in the guide.

Since you moved to a different PC check your firewall settings on that PC to make sure the ports are open for SageTV or the Sage TV service to get out and get the EPG data.

I had the same problem. It turned out Sage does not work correctly with the new Fusion USB drivers. It worked when I first installed the drivers because of the channel scan that was done with the older drivers. Then I had to reinstall everything and I lost all the guide info for my fusion card. My other cards did have guide info. I rolled back the drivers and the guide info came back.

Since the same thing happened to me a few weeks ago, I think I'll tell you about that as it sounds like it might be the same thing.

If you revert to an older version of your Wiz.bin file without reverting to the corresponding Sage.properties file, then this problem can occur. The reason is that there's a property which deals with update synchronization for the EPG server. So if those 2 files fall out of sync, then the update mechanism will be out of sync. That means there will be holes in your guide data of 'No Data' because your properties say you have it; but your Wiz.bin file doesn't actually have the data in it. There's mechanisms in place to try to detect when this occurs and then correct the problem; but they're not foolproof.

The easy fix is to just delete all of the lines in the properties file that have 'server_update_id' in them and you should be OK.

I'm suspicious it's the same issue here because he moved his setup from one computer to another and may have decided to use backup files for various reasons.

I probably should have metioned a few more things.

The windows firewall is turned off, I use system suites and it has sage as an exception. I was thinking about using my old bin file but never did. I also tried deleting the server_update_id a couple of times(doesn't work). I have tired changing the line up to other line ups and then back to mine. That didn't work either. I have manually updated the epg and still nothing. I have a hauppauge pvr 500 card which yesterday after I made this thread the card would only play local channels on tuner #2 even though I had it setup for cable channels(works now).

I did have the guide working the other day, but now it's displays nothing in the guide not even lines of where data should be. It's weird though because when I tune into a channel the info displays on the screen.

And the other day when the guide displayed nothing it had "null guide" as the title of the screen. Now it has "program guide"

You said there was nothing in the Program Guide screen, yet the program info was listed for a show? Is that for live TV or an old exsiting recording? If it was during live TV, then it sounds like the uide data is there, but the Program Guide screen simply isn't working... what exact version of SageTV are you using and what STV is being used? Both of those should be listed on the System Information screen.

Edit: Also, make sure SageTV is not running while you are editing the properties file.

yes that is exactly what's happening. in live tv there is show info but nothing in the guide.

I downloaded a newer version of sagetv when I switched computers.
version: v5.0.4.92
stv: sagetv3-15.xml(version 5.0.3.11)

Try using the newer default sagetv3.xml instead of the modified STV from the previous version.

Well for some reason it works now and I haven't done anything different than I was doing before, but if it fails again I'll try to upgrade to a newer stv.

OK, so the guide stopped working again. It also keeps asking me for the parental lock code even though I have it disabled and never once had it enabled.

I am trying to use the newer default sagetv3.xml, but sage won't start with it.

If I go back to my original stv then everything works.
