ffmpeg help
Ok, does anyone know where I can find libx264.so.54 to install?
I tried: 'sudo svn co svn://svn.videolan.org/x264/trunk x264' I tried: x264-snapshot-20061128-2245 from the VideoLAN ftp site. Neither seem to make ffmpeg happy: libx264.so.54 => not found I am pulling my hair out trying to find this package! Here is what I can locate: /var/cache/apt/archives/libx264-dev_1%3a0.cvs20060210-0.0ubuntu1_i386.deb /var/lib/dpkg/info/libx264-dev.md5sums /var/lib/dpkg/info/libx264-dev.list /usr/lib/libx264_pic.a /usr/lib/libx264.a /usr/local/lib/libx264.a any ideas? |

Sorry about that, you need a very specific version. I will try to remove this dependency on the next beta build.

ok, cool. I actually just figured it out. The latest copy I got from the videolan webpage had it, I just didn't realize at the time that I needed to specify the option in ./configure to create the .so file.
libmp3lame was the other dependancy I had problems with. Again, I was able to find it after a few days of searching and config options. Man, I just wish the Gentoo distro worked.... Ideally, I'd love to be able to get a new machine, stick in a CD and install an image on a clean drive that already had all of the best tweaks and configs and stuff configured optimally for sagetv. The only application I run on my sagetv server is the sagetv server and the only external connections are the tuners and ethernet. I don't even have a monitor or mouse connected to it. I had originally thought (when I took the Sage for Linux plunge) that's what the Gentoo install was with the installprofile.xml. But Gentoo 2006.1 hung on compiling kernel (I gave up after waiting 8 hours - I let it go all night) and 2006.0 installed perfectly, but when I booted, it errored out on startx. Of course, I'm considering going back to that version and just run in rc3 since I shouldn't ever need a GUI, but that's a minimum of a day without the content stored on those drives - longer if I have to fail back to Ubuntu again. Also, with Gentoo, I never saw any options to format the drives at 64Byte clusters. anyway, enough grumblings. It's still a great product! |

Did you use something else that gave you an option format drives in 64k clusters on Linux?

In fairness, it wasn't until I abandoned Gentoo that I realized that ext2 doesn't support 64kB clusters, so perhaps if the option would have presented itself if I had chosen xfs. However, I assumed that the installprofile.xml would have taken care of those details (I know nothing about how installprofile works so my assumptions may not even have been possible). |
