Stuttering live HDTV with service mode
Not sure when this started happening to me, but if I run sage in service mode, I get stuttering when watching live HD channels. If I run in standalone mode, no stuttering. I am recording on a separate server and watching on separate clients. It is not the client because the stuttering occurs on all clients. The CPU usage hits 100% when it begins stuttering and won't stop stuttering until i push stop and start the channel up again.
Recorded HDTV shows work fine. No stuttering. No problems at all with SDTV channels. |

I get this with programs longer than one hour. I can stop that by stopping the service temporarily with Sage closed (it breaks up the file). I haven't tried just turning it off while Sage is loaded.
Also, backing off one second from live helps a great deal. |

I noticed this as well. I just built my first non MVP client for HD in my BR and it was happening there. Never thought about the service being hte issue. I will have to look at that.

I just did a little test during the USC game, and unfortunately, turning off the service while Sage is running requires Sage to exit to continue watching (and thus it breaks up the file into two segments, which for me reduces stutter by itself).
But the big thing I noticed is my CPU utilization is WAY reduced without the service running. 30-40% reduction! (From about 70-80% to 25-35%). That alone could indicate why there'd be less stutter! I don't see why service mode should take up so much in the way of resources! |
