Telewest Cable direct via PVR250/350?
I might be dreaming, but I think I've seen the odd reference to connecting Telewest cable to Sage direct via a PVR250/350, as opposed to the supplied Pace set top box, composite video/s-video, and an IR blaster...
Has anyone tried this, or even better still, got a working setup based on this scenario? If so, how well does this work? What happens regarding subscription channels? How do you cope with tuning and frequencies? Can you use multiple tuners? I've been using Sage with Freeview for some time, but I might be tasked with putting a box together for someone else who is using Telewest, and I've never dabbled with cable... Any help, or pointers gratefully received! Thanks. Steve

You've definately got your wires crossed somewhere
The latest beta adds support for DVB-C cards which provides a route for taking the cable feed directly into the PC but its not something you can pick up and off the shelf solution for. Most definately not something you'd want to setup for someone else as they'd be on the phone everytime it stopped working Telewest/NTL explicitly prohibit plugging unapproved devices into their network. Highly unlikely they could catch you but expect legal action if they do. Do a bit of googling for DVB-C cards, Common Interface (CI) and Conditional Access Module (CAM). FireDTV have a DVB-C card which supports the necessary features I believe. |
