Fixed AR when using TV out with HD recordings...

Hi all,
don't know if anyone has run into this. I record mostly ATSC HD stuff, but have recently built a client computer with Nvidia 6200 to use in spare BR with an old 4:3 Sony tube with this content.

Picture is actually very acceptable with on the fly transcoding to 640x480 on the S-video out, but the AR is fixed at HD 16:9. I don't really mind that much, and certainly for my HD clients that's all I'd want, but it's kinda nice to use 4:3 or fill on a 4:3 set.

Attempting to change AR from 4:3, 16:9, Source, Fill has no effect at all on HD recordings. However, AR changes work normally on cable 4:3 content.

I tried this a while back, just for testing purposes, and I seem to remember that I _was_ able to change AR with HD content. Not sure what I was doing differently then.

Anyone run into similar issues?

cheers,
Dave

I have noticed the same issue. When a network station broadcasts a SD show, they still broadcast a HD stream. Sage sees the stream as 16x9, so you get black bars all around. I tried changing the Fill mode to zoom it in, but it keeps the black bars at the top and cuts off the picture.

It might be a problem with the video decoder, or its settings, that you are using. Using SageTV on a widescreen monitor and playing a SDTV show, one decoder played it pillar boxed while another played it full screen while using the same 100% x 100% aspect ratio in SageTV.

If you are using the Purevideo Decoder, see if changing the display type in purevideo settings helps. If I remember correctly, I had problems when I had it set to Anamorphic/Raw Aspect.

I like to play everything full screen, so I use fill for regular SDTV, source for HDTV, 16x9 for letter boxed SDTV, and 4x3 for SD shows pillar boxed in HDTV. I adjusted the percentages accordingly.

You're not using video mirroring, or Theater Mode or something are you?

Yeah, I am running Purevideo, and haven't checked out the decoder settings. I have a feeling that may be the issue. I'll report back when I have a sec to mess with it.

Thx, Dave
