Converted AVI playback problems
Hi,
I've noticed a couple of problems with the 6.016 version of SageTV. I tried converting a show to AVI (MPEG4 high quality). Playing back the new AVI file is VERY jerky...pauses in the picture every second. Also, when I begin playback of an AVI, the SageTV screen minimises, but the file keeps playing (maximising Sage again and the file continues OK in full-screen, except for the jerking). I've got the latest DIVX codec/player installed, in case that's relevant. AVIs from other sources don't appear to have the same problem of jerkiness. Anyone else having similar problems? Regards, Ben |

A quick update...uninstalling DIVX seems to have got rid of the minimising problem, but the jerkiness is still there.
Also, I think the playback looks better using the DIVX codec, than with whatever Sage has by default. Ben |

I experienced the same thing with DivX and minimizing in 6.0.15. I uninstalled DivX and installed Xvid and things worked fine.

HI,
Yes...I removed DIVX and installed Xvid, and the minimise problem went away. Sadly, I dont find Xvid as good as Divx though. The jerkiness was still there, however. Sage support told me to change a line in the client sage.properties and significantly improved the jerking. It's still a bit rough and things like camera pans or movement across the screen aren't very smooth, but it's watchable. For anyone interested, the line was: mplayer/use_for_all_mpeg4_playback=true Strangely, the server system doesn't have this change, and plays the AVI without jerkiness. Regards, Ben |
