Learning remote under $50?
Are there any descent learning universals for under $50? If so where can I find one? Ive blown way to much money in a single setting to spend $100 more on an RC.

But rather than wasting your money on that, if you're talking about Sage, how about just a better mouse? The only thing I use my remote for is to turn the TV and receiver on and off. |

I've never been happy with any of my universal remotes until I purchased a Universal Remote MX-350. IIRC, it was $150 but knowing what I know now I would have purchased a PC programmable model even considering the additional cost.
Of course, YMMV, depending on your needs. |

Circuitcity.com has a Universal Remote brand R7G which has buttons that match to most of the Hauppauge buttons here.
The manufacturer also has details here. You can download the users manual to view the button layout in better detail. I'm tempted to buy one just to try it out. All I really want is to be able to turn on and off my TV with the same remote that controls SageTV. Oh, if Hauppauge would only do that....

Sony RM VL-900
You should still be able to find them, either new or refurb, online. 8 device, all keys learnable, some macros, clonable and under $50 anymore. Just my $.02 |

Yep Sony has a good lineup. I've had a VL900, vl700 and currently have 2 VL710. I think the VL710 is around $20-$30 at circuit city, best buy and such

Not strictly programmable, but I picked up some UK Tivo remote on ebay on the cheap and it's fantastic with Sage (and USB-UIRT, of course).
Was also easy to configure to control TV volume/mute/power on/off with quick code search. See here for similar: http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Silver-TiVo-...QQcmdZViewItem Goodspike, seriously now, you put up with the wireless keyboard for control? The wife and I did that for the first 6 months or so, but IMO it _tremendously_ improves the functionality of Sage with a remote, and moreover, convinces friends/neighbors that it's a viable PVR product. But to each his own... cheers, Dave |
