Is there hope?
Howdy all,
Just looking for some clarification. The release notes for 6.0 indicate hard drive based dvds (i.e. rips) can be played through MVPs. Does that also include place shifting clients? Thanks, B |

I always get an error with placeshifter that "there is no media player that can play the selection"

No, the Placeshifter client will not play DVDs.

I think the MVP can play mp4 files so just convert your DVD's to mp4 and you are set.

Can you convert to mp4 and retain menus?

I believe that Sage can only display and navigate menus in DVDs, not any other file format.

Anyone else having lots of troubles with MVPs and RC2??
90% of the time, after waking up my MVP it hangs at loading the software. Only when I restart the service and reboot the MVP I get it to boot up properly. Can this be considered a RC2 bug? |

BcJenkins - The answer is a rock solid YES. MP4 files can contain both the captions as well as chapter information. Now, that is when the DVD's are encoded with Nero Recode. I don't know what happens if one encodes using Sage. I use two pass encoding with either Recode for DVDs or StaxRip for mpg files. Although AVC High Profile can take as long as 8 hours to encode or longer, it's well worth it to me. I just start it at night and by morning it's done. I've already encoded my entire DVD collection and all the DVD's are in the garage. One may use GermSage with Sage to use Nero Showtime to play the mp4 files to then view the MP4 files utilizing the captions and/or chapters. I'm not sure if internally Sage can show the captions or skip chapters.
Considering one may encode movies at approx 250-300 mb/hour you are talking around 1000 movies on a 500gb hard drive. Mike Last edited by mike1961; 12-20-2006 at 10:14 PM. |

I don't mind not having the chapters work in Sage, but I hope they find a way to display the subtitles...
