Adding a channel that isn't shown in the cable EPG but is available

Hi. I am doing a fresh sage install as part of a conversion back to Sage from MCE. Right now the test server has an HDHomeRun connected to it, and a PVR-150 that talks to a Moto 6412 STB.

I have gone through and mapped the channels available unencrypted via QAM, and the directions seem on hop to map these to the guide. However, in my market, there is an unencrypted channel, American Life TV, that is available on the plant, but not available in the guide of the STB. It has a couple programs that we love in our family, and so would love to be able to recieve it (this channel is available for free to the MSO - it's even unencrypted on the satellite).

So how do I tell Sage about this new channel when the comcast lineup for my system doesn't "know" about it.

Thanks,
Mike

Maybe more specifics would help. The channel is American Life TV. It is available in numerous cable systems (Time-Warner Dallas, LA, Comcast in some cities in Florida, etc...). It is not available in my system according to the STB's EPG and program guide, but is available from the HDHomeRun.

Is there any way I can use the EPG data from another system for this channel? Do I have to use an XML EPG and build it that way?

Thanks,
Mike

Is the channel listed on the Zap2It site? If so, you can use the ID number from the url for that channel as the station ID when you add the channel to your lineup. (See p. 159 of the v6 manual for info about adding a channel.)

Thanks! Yes, zap2it lists it. Thanks for the pointer in the manual. I didn't realize you could use that feature this way. Thanks!

I have added several channels that way. However there is one, WWNYDT2 in Watertown, NY that will not show data. I scanned Watertown Digital OTA and it's not listed, then I added the channel and station number from Zap2it and still nothing. Sage Support states I need V6.0 to get this station. Why can't V5 do this? What would be so special about this Digital OTA FOX station?

If the listings for a channel are not available to SageTV as part of some satellite or cable lineup, then it may not be available through SageTV at all, so that could explain why you are getting no listings for it when using the station ID.

The reason you may be able to get guide listings for the channel in v6 is that v6 can get the channel's listings via the signal it receives OTA.
