Windows/Linux transfer

Hi, I bought the Windows v5 version of SageTV 10 days ago after using the trial for a while. In the past few days, I have unexpectedly decided to build a new PC, which will arrive in a few days. I will be installing my Vista beta that I signed up for (lasts until June 2007), as well as possibly transferring my XP install to that PC, assuming I need it because of Vista incompatibilities.

I hope not to buy any new Windows licenses until Vista is released. So I will probably be installing Linux on my old PC and using it as a file/web server. I'd also like to install SageTV on it, but I've realized that it will probably not be running Windows.

So I have a customer support issue about what I can do about a license for the wrong OS, but on top of that, my forum question:

Is the Linux version completely equivalent to the Windows version? If I get the Linux version, will I be able to use my PVR-150 MCE the same way, with the possibility to tweak saturation, brightness, etc? Will the Linux version recognize my wiz.bin recording schedule, favorites, etc. or will I have to set that up again?

If I switch to the Linux version, I am comfortable researching some of this myself, but I would like to know what I'm in for if that's what I choose. Thanks.

-Ben

Edit: maybe I should have posted to SageTV Software forum? If so, feel free to move this.

For your first point, you will have to purchase a Linux lisence. I have both and once I make the final transition, I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the Windows one.... Can I return it for store credit? It's a used lisence, but still in good condition.

anyway,
I only have a PVR-250 in my Linux box and it worked great. Going to move the PVR-500 over soon, but those are the only 2 that I own.

Since my Linux box has nothing scheduled, I replaced the Wiz.bin with the one from the Windows server to see what happened.

First off, all of the favorites transferred fine. However, any settings that specify directory paths were, obviously, wrong. Fixing these should be easy enough, though.

What I would love to see from Sage is the ability to import/export favorites. That would make all of this very easy and cross-platform. Also, we could share them. For example, if a new user just got Sage for Christmas and wanted to schedule '24' as a favorite, he can't do that until it shows up on the program guide. If we could import/export favorites, then someone who already had it saved could just send the export to the new guy and he could add it. That way he wouldn't have to worry about forgetting to set it up.

make sense? or have I just been drinking too much eggnog?

Makes sense. I have about 40-50 favorites that I wouldn't want to try to find again, especially if they don't show up for a while in the search because of lack of future airings in the listings. The paths I can deal with fine.

It's not totally related to Sage, but is there an interface somewhere in gentoo for adjusting the brightness and saturation? Like the "ProcAmp" settings in that Hauppauge Tweaker utility?

I think that might be my last concern before switching. Thanks.
