I don't buy it. The key extraction process wasn't shown, and even then AACS has revocation lists.
It may get hacked, but it's more complicated that what has been shown by this guy. thanks, mike |

Re: It's harder than it looks...
Yeah, it relies on having the Title Keys for the discs and the author hasn't provided a means to retrieve them. Re: Revocation lists... That's not a problem for this app because it uses the Title keys, which are on the disc and can't be changed once the disc is pressed. Re: Extenders... Don't count on it, HD DVD isn't (for the most part) using MPEG-2, it's using VC-1 Advanced Profile, and as far as I know, aside from the HD DVD and Blu-ray players, there isn't any hardware that can decode VC-1 AP. For an extender to be useful: 1) It would need to support MPEG-2, VC-1 AP, and H.264. 2) It would have to understand the EVO files or someone would have to write an app to convert EVO to TS/AVI/MPG files. |

Well yeah, the Broadcom and Sigma chips in HD DVD and Blu-ray players are capable too.
Scarilly enough the Pioneer BD player is probably the best (ie most realistic near-term) bet for something like that, considering it supports networking and "Plays For Sure". |
