Windows Time Synch Interval
To make my PC synch its time/date to NIST several times a day, rather than far less frequently as is the default, I change the registry entry so that synchs are done every 2 or 4 hours. I also experiment with different time servers to find one that's not too busy. Two registry entries
SpecialInterval < set to 1 SpecialPollInterval < seconds between updates Here's the description... ------------- Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 This entry specifies the special poll interval in seconds for manual peers. When the SpecialInterval 0x1 flag is enabled, W32Time uses this poll interval instead of a poll interval determine by the operating system. The default value on domain members is 3,600. The default value on stand-alone clients and servers is 604,800. To change the interval that Windows updates the time using the internet time servers navigate to: 1. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services \W32Time\TimeProviders\NtpClient 2. Select SpecialPollInterval 3. Change decimal value from 604800 to some other value in seconds. EX: 172800 (2 days) Last edited by stevech; 01-08-2007 at 07:33 PM. |
