nVidia DualTV and Dish Network

I'm not totally understanding how the DualTV card will (or won't) work with the Dish network SD STB. The nVidia card automatically splits the signal, so there's only one cable input. Does this effectively circumvent the requirement to get an extra STB?

Thanks in advance...

Rick

No, because the cable box can only tune one channel at a time. However there are plenty people here that have used various dual analog tuners with one box, plus cable straight in. Im not sure that setup will work with a DualTV though (i think it does).

EDIT: I didnt realize you were talking Sat. STB, and not cable. You cant skip the STB in that case.

IMHO - all tuning is performed by the sat receiver box- so you'll need one Sat. STB /receiver per input you want to record/watch in the PVR.

No experience with Dual tuners here- but I presume there should be a breakout cable for different input types etc- simplest solution may be to use some such setup- although you might want to use the Sat Box Digital outs (S-Vid/ Composites) for both of your tuners rather than the tuner(RF) inputs.

Good luck!

You wouldn't want to use the coax input, as you would have to use a combiner from two STBs, to the one input on the DualTV card, then inside the DualTV card it would re-split that signal and get ALLLLLL confused

What you would do, is like naln said, you would plug your two STBs into two different composite (or svideo) inputs. The DualTV supports this. It has two sets on the bracket. You can find more information about the inputs here:

http://www.nvidia.com/page/dualtv_product_specs.html

But to answer your question: NO, you still need TWO STBs for two channels.

Dish's dual tuner stb won't work unless you know of a way to have your PC change the channel on the second tuner in the box via UHF. It was the deciding factor for me in comparison to DTV.

DirecTV - 4 D11-100s using serial tuning. From what I could tell, Dish didn't do serial tuning.
