SageTV Start SA Automatically when a recording starts?

Is there a way to tell SageTV to automatically start SA (ShowAnalyzer) each time a new recording begins?

I know that DirMon2 checks all my drives I tell it every 10 minutes (default), but this keeps all my 6 drives from sleeping (spinning down) when not in use which causes too much heat.

The only way I know of doing something like this, is to use SageMC with Comskip. You can set it up to automatically call comskip at the end of a recording.

You also might be able to use Windows Scheduler to only run Dirmon2 for a few hours a day.

Ok thanks. Side dumb question. Can I install SageMC without changing my regular SageTV layout? Not sure what exactly SageMC is and from what I can tell, it redoes the Saget window interface, no?

Yes, SageMC is a completely new UI for SageTV. It offers a lot of additional functionality, but it can be quite different if you are used to the standard UI, so you may or may not like it. This link has some screenshots, which gives you a rough idea. Keep in mind that the automatic comkip invocation in SageMC only works for *.txt (and not *.edl) files, and I would always recommend to run something like DirMon since it gives you much more control. Did you try the "Blackout Times" option in DirMon ? I never tried it myself, but I would think that it does not scan the directories during that time.

Thanks flachbar.

I am too used to the normal SageTV UI and my wife will kill me if I make one more change to SageTV that is obvious such as the screen layout

Anyway to get the Tools without the screen interface?

EDIT: Or anyway to use SageMC and being able to make it look like the original SageTV?

IRRC, you can setup comskip (in its config file) to output edl files (among other file types). Im 99% I used to do that very thing with sageMC before switching to SA.

EDIT: I really think that most people will prefer SageMC over the default UI if they give it some time. Not everyone will though.

Ah, now I see. When I checked the code (I'm not that familiar with this part since I never used it) I just noticed that it is only checking the existence of "*.txt" files when deciding whether to start comskip on a recording or not. But you're right if you configure comskip to output both then this should work fine ...
