HDTV

So I was thinking about getting a HDTV and after looking throught the posts, these are the general conclusions I came to...

HDhomerun is the capture device to get...other suggestions?

So I currently use a hauppauge 2 tuner 500 card for normal cable, will the hdhomerun tune all those channels as well? if not, i guess i'd have to split and use both...

What's the format of choice to record HD in?

Does showanalyzer work about the same with HDTV?

I just installed the HDHR on Saturday.

It worked just fine and the instructions were perfect. follow them closely. I also have a PVR 150 and a PVR 500... So, I now have 5 tuners. The HDHR will not get the "other channels". It only gets channels that are digital and unencrypted. So, you want to do some research before buying on what channels you can really get with it. The best way to test is to have a TV that has a QAM capable tuner. Then you will pretty much know for sure.

The HDHR picture quality is outstanding and records just fine in Sage. I've just started testing other applications with the recorded files. It worked well with videoredo. But, several people, including me, are having trouble converting the video to DVD and then burning to a DVD.

I record in .TS format...

Look at the thread in the Hardware section for HDHomerun..Its described in there...(I don't want to get it wrong)..There is a setting in the properties file that defines TS or PS....I was told that most other applications will work better with TS..So, that's what I did.

I was originally recording OTA-ATSC to program stream format, and after setting up the HDHomerun I notice everything's getting recorded in TS format. Is there something about the HDHR that makes it incompatible with program stream format?

Hmm,I was recording in PS and it weasn't glitch free. The native stream on the wire is .ts so at that point all the HDHomerun is doing is copying the bits off the wire in one format and then encapsulating them in UDP and squirting them out the back. The actual data is untouched..
