Moving video drives to new computer

I have 2 sage servers. One is the "production" server and the other is the "development" server which has been dedicated to bringing up the HD environment with HDHomerun (which has been working great!). I now am in the process of consolidating everything onto the development server...ie have moved my PVR500 card and now want to move my hard drives over containing my entire SD library. I read the FAQ on doing this but have one question:

When I move the drives over the FAQ says that i need to move my wiz.bin file over as well onto the new machine. The problem is that i have the new machine completely configured with both HD and SD and have also built up some HD recordings over the last 2 weeks. Is this step mandatory to get my old drives to work in the new system or is there another way to make this work?

thanks,
jeff

You may need to decide which set of recordings is more important for you to have linked to airing details.

The recordings are connected to the associated data in wiz.bin via the ID numbers on the files & those numbers won't match to the same sets of shows in another wiz.bin file.

that was what I was afraid of. there is no way I am deleting the "24" episodes so I need to start bribing my kids on replacing their "spongebob" episodes!

Well, you can simply move the spongebob episodes to a new folder and view them through the media center/imported videos.

Yeah, you lose the program descriptions, but there are worse things that could happen.

If you really wanted to keep these recordings in your recorded show listings with program info there is a way to do that using nielm's webserver. It allows you to customize epg data on a per show basis. It also allows you to introduce files from your imported videos section into your recorded shows listings (they would show up as archived shows, but you can unarchive them).
If you decided to go this route, you would simply choose the wiz.bin file that preserves the most shows in your recorded shows listings. Put your other files in your imported videos directory and use the webserver to have them show up in your recorded shows listings. I've only done this once or twice so I know it works but it has unfortunately been a while, so I cannot offer detailed instructions at the moment. If you search the webserver thread, a discussion about this should show up.

Good luck!

EDIT: Instructions on how to do this are actually in the SageWiki. I provided a link below in case you're interested:

Those instructions sure lack info. For example, it says:

* First put the file in a TV recordings directory, refresh the library, then edit the show data.
* Edit the show data, shutdown Sage server/service, them move the file to a TV recordings directory.
This has the added advantage that the file will be un-archived.

- Refresh Library - How?
- What is the difference between "Put the file in a TV recordings directory" and "move the file to a TV recordings directory'? I have to move it again? If yes, to a different Movie directory?

Yeah, I agree. As I recall, I had to get pretty creative with those instructions before I could get it to work for me.

I have been accumulating some shows that I would like to reintroduce into my TV directory. Perhaps I could try tonight and post detailed instructions (assuming success). Would there be any interest for something like that?
