Q: Can you use any version of Linux or does Sage require that it be Gentoo only?

This link gives instruction on setting sagetv up on non-gentoo versions of Linux.
http://www.sage.tv/linuxOEMinstallAdv.html Ubuntu 6.10 Server works well for me. Mandriva 2007
I run mine on Mandriva 2007. Basically, SageTV should run on just about any version of Linux that can use IVTV and a recent version of the Java Run-time Environment (you have to remember to include the bin directory in your path). I've also run SageTV on various versions of Redhat and Ubuntu.

Would this run on a Mac running Mandriva?
And further, could I run it as a client while my Sage server is running windows? Edit: After further thought I think Placeshifter would be better sutied me, but I am still curious if anybody has an answer.

The server won't work on a powerpc Mac since some parts are made for x86 processors. Using a x86 mac with linux it should work as a standard pc.

Ubuntu correction
Just a quick correction to an earlier post in this thread. On Ubuntu (Edgy at least) one of the install lines should read:
sudo apt-get install java-package rather than sudo apt-get install java-packages In other words, no "S" on the end.

Does the Linux version of SageTV work on FreeBSD?
Anyone had any experience with this?
Free BSD is suppose to be able to run many Linux applications, but I'm just wanting to know if anyone has had any success. I run a Web Server at home using Free BSD and I'm looking for opportunities to conserve power by using this one server for more applications given that most of the time it site's pretty idle. |

The problem you are likely to have on bsd is the video capture interface and drivers which are both linux specific as far as I know.

i have a server running on gentoo and a client running on ubuntu edgy... no issues so far, the client is running well with a radeon 8800 at 720p. finding nice remotes without installing a pvr-x50 on linux is the annoying part... the wii remote is getting close, but still needs some development.
