Sage won't start

Upgraded to version 6. Now, I cannot get Sage to start up. Tried clicking on the desktop icon; tried clicking on START SAGETV SAGETV; tried going into Windows Explorer, Program Files, Sage and SageTV.exe - nothing. Can't get it started at all.

It was certainly working fine before I upgraded.

FYI, I already did REPAIR, using the upgrade program.

Can anyone help?

If it is trying to run the correct exe, try enabling debug logging to see if the log contains any error messages.

Nope...

Hi, Andy. Thanks for the prompt reply.

Did exactly what you suggested I do, but I still cannot get Sage to start (therefore, I assume, no txt log is created).

Further suggestions?

Thanks, again.

It should create some sort of log, even if it is a short one... instead of a repair, try a complete uninstall & reinstall.

Andy,

I uninstalled and reinstalled.

The good news: When I clicked on start - it DID !!!!!!!

The bad news: The opening splash screen has been up for over 45 minutes...at the bottom of the screen it says, "Wait - database upgrade may take awhile."

The first time I saw this screen, I waited 30 minutes and CTRL-ALT-DEL'ed to stop it. I then re-started Sage and it's now doing the "Wait" thing, as described above.

Hate to ask...any further suggestions?

Answering my own question...

I'm going to answer my own question...I now realize what Sage is doing - and with 6000 songs on my main hard drive and my backup hard drive, it's going to take a few hours, probably, to finish.

Not sure why Sage is building this database that includes all of my music, but I s'pose I'll find out whenever I can finally use the darn thing.

You've upgraded from a previous version. It needs to convert the old db to the new db. And all of your 6,000 song entries and tags. It might take a long while.

Arrrggghhhhh.....

Man, I hope this upgrade is worth the effort.

While the database is converting, my computer is almost useless....it's taking up all the resources and moving sooooooo slooooowww.

Thanks.

Update: This "database upgrade" is still chugging along, taking up ALL of my computer resources and continuing to make the computer fairly useless, for over ten hours now. Luckily, I'm off to meetings this morning, so I'll let the computer chug a few more hours, but I'm getting sorely tempted to say the heck with it and try to roll-back the computer to before I uninstalled Version 5 of Sage and installed 6.

If anyone out there has faced a similar situation as mine, please stop me before I try the rollback. I looked thru the forums and manual and for the life of me, I can't figure out what Sage is converting and why it's taking so long (again, as referenced above, I do have 6000 mp3's...I also have what could be a 50-100 hours of video on my hard drive....is Sage converting all this video to another format? If all it's doing is cataloguing, why would it take so long?).

Alright...enough...comments?

Check the log file. There may be file that's causing it hang up.

OK, Sage Dream Team. I stopped Sage from installing (just so I could check my email and do a few other things). I'm going to re-start Sage and head out for a lunch meeting, but in the meantime, here's what the log file says:

Here's the latest situation: I finally had to get some work done, so I stopped Sage from installing (obviously, it was hanging up, as mentioned above). However, when I tried to restart it, I couldn't. Clicking on the sage.exe file or the shortcut - nothing would start Sage. However, it was still taking up resources and slowing down my computer. After 3 reboots, I finally just uninstalled the darn thing.

So, now I'm back to square one. Happy to re-download the Version 6 again and try to get it started, but hoping someone out there can decipher the log report above and tell me why it hung up on install?
