Question DVD / MPEG-2 decoder for Vista ?

Anyone know the status of DVD / MPEG-2 playback in Vista?

I heard a rumor that Ultimate edition comes with Microsoft's new DVD / MPEG-2 decoder (the wrote it from scratch) but haven't seen official confirmation. Looking around, I don't see anything from Nvidia or Sonic on Vista compatibility with their decoders.

I haven't received my RTM copy of Ultimate from Microsoft yet, but my RC1 copy of Ultimate did have a built-in decoder that did expire recently. I had to install the nVidia decoder (it does work in Vista RC1) and run the vista version of DECCHECK to set the nVidia decoder as primary.

I looked at nVidia's decoder webpage system requirements, and it says this:

(Note: The PureVideo Decoder is not supported under Microsoft Windows Vista.)

i do have ultimate (i uninstalled it last week after i found out Vista doesn't support digital sub channels) and there is a built in decoder, i tried both Microsofts decoder and Purevideo (purevideo does work under vista, although in software mode)..

i can't say for sure if its what you are asking about, i would suspect the decoder is tied to MCE and not just ultimate..

without the purevideo decoder, i was able to play HD (Mpeg2) and DVDs fine..

Any way of getting hardware accelerated MPEG-2 to work in Vista? My Athlon64 3000+ is struggling to do a software decode of my HD files.

I am able to play it just fine with Vista Ultimate with out without PureVideo. The only issue I know with Vista is tryign to stream MP2 to a 360, it doesn't work...at laest for now it doesn't.
