stupid newbie question: how to watch on my TV
Hello, I am considering the linux edition for an old PC i am setting up as an HTPC. I am techinical (though not so much with linux just yet but was looking forward to learning)
How easy/hard is it to get the svideo output on an nvida card to hook into the TV in linux? Is there a better way to hook the HTPC into a TV set? This is going to be used on a Standard Definition TV with the normal composite, coax, and svid inputs. was planning to get the WinTV-PVR-150 if this helps Thanks |

I am currently running an Nvidia 7300GS with component out to a HD TV and by default my card will output to S-vid or composite once the video card is installed. You will more than likely have to play with the xorg.conf to get the settings the way that you would like. Nvidia has a lot of info on how to get that all configured. Hope that helps

MediaMVP
The Hauppauge MediaMVP box makes a good interface to your television also. It avoids having to figure out how to hook your computer to the TV and allows you to locate the TV anywhere else in the house that you can run an Ethernet cable or locate a wireless interface.
I have one of the original MVP boxes (bought years ago at CompUSA) that works wonderfully with SageTV, over a 802.11g connection via a WRT54G running in bridge mode (okay, I'm a wireless geek). - joat |
