Vista - Help

I am having problem with SageTV not wanting to start up using Vista. ATI X1300 video card with Java 6.0 installed. If I select 256 colors, let SageTV start up, then I can start it, then switch to the native resolution. But if I don't do that, SageTV comes up with just a black box. Any ideas?

Not sure if this helps ...

Depending on which version of Vista you are running, MCE may be available. Have you run it?

Not sure if anything has changed, but I tried running Sage on XP MCE and since MCE had some services running Sage had issues. When I disabled those services, Sage worked fine. Of course then MCE no longer worked. At the time I was planning on trying both out but it wasn't worth it so I gave up and reinstalled regular old XP and Sage.

I am currently running Sage successfully on a Vista Ultimate box (w/NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GX2 Graphics Card / PureVideo Decoders and Java 6), but have not bothered setting up MCE.

I don't lose Aero when Sage is running either.

T.

I just installed Vista Ultimate and SageTVClient works fine. Radeon 9600 with Java 6. Don't need to change colors or anything. Vista does drop down to its basic color scheme insted of Aero glass, but it is still running in 32bit color.

SageClient worked during the Vista betas as well.

Unhappy Ultimate Vista

I am running Windows Vista Ultimate X64. Was having problems with my PVR-150 card stuttering under Sage, so I moved it my other box. So have SageTV on a dedicated box, but the client on my current rig. But same issue. And the PVR-150 works all right after a little tweaking under MCE.

1. If do nothing, a black box comes up and no where to click on within it. Can close it out.

2. Set properties on the short cut to SageTv to 256 colors, then it comes up, complains about the resolution and opens up. At that time I can change my resolution (ok, color depth) to 32 bit and it works fine.

Think the issue is between Sage and the ATI Catalist drivers. Just like some overlay/Direct X modes are not Vista friendly, my guess is that Sage is trying to open up a window in a mode that Vista doesn't like.

Question of the day: Is there command line options to change how Sage opens up?

Smile Problem Solved

Found the problem! Issue is with Catalyst Control Center (CCC.exe). Under display settings, the option to "Detect whenever Catalyst Control center is opened" was checked. Changed it to "Use manual detection only" and the problem went away!
