moving to a new server
I bought the OEM version of SageTV and have had it running on a test system. I tried to move it to a new server that will be its new home, but none of my recorded program data stayed, and my favorites list is empty on the new machine.
To move the software over, I tar'd up the /opt/sagetv directory, copied the tarball over to the new machine, and untar'd it. I also rsync'd the /var/media structure to the new machine so everything is where it should be. Sage runs fine, and does everything it should outside of showing my recorded shows from the previous machine and listing my favorites. Here's the question: What can I do to get my shows and favorites listed in Sage on the new machine? Is there a special step that I should take, or is my only option to re-enter my favorites and enjoy my recorded shows from the imported video folder? |

I am about to do the same thing...upgrade my SageTV server system...what steps do you take to 1) move the install / license over 2) move the configuration settings over 3) move the recordings over

You'll need wiz.bin to keep your old recording & Favorites info. If that file wasn't copied, it would start with a fresh database.

You need to reauthorize your version before running it (even once) on the new server.

This worked like a charm and everything from favorites to imported media was recognized on the new system. |

Omitted one thing...
I realized I forgot one thing in my previous post. I have MVP's connecting to my televisions, and when I moved to the new server, I unplugged the power from the MVPs, let them sit for a bit, then plugged them back in. When they came up, they went to the select server screen where my new server was listed.
This might be helpful info to anyone relocating their software to another machine. |
