Coaxial connection is the worse connection to use. I concur with the others that you should also try a better decoder, either Nvidia, WinDVD or PowerDVD.

I use svideo or composite from my STBs and the quality is decent even when blowing the picture up to a 92inch projection screen via an LCD PJ.

Ideally for the best SD picture quality you want to connect the sVideo from the cable box into the tuner card in the computer and also it's very important to connect the computer's VGA to the LCD VGA. I found far worse quality when any other signal besides VGA went to the LCD.
