mp3s and avis crash sage
Long time BTV user test driving Sage (3 days left).
I have managed to get Sage working well for TV. I have imported my Photos, Videos and Music collections into Sage. When I open the Media Center and go to Photos, I can see my folders and thumbnails and play a slide show. When I go to Music, I can see my folders and files but when I hit play Sage crashes. The same thing happens with video avi (divx and xvid) files. Mpeg2 files captured by BTV on another machine play OK. I even used Sage to compress a clip from a recording to avi and it crashes Sage when I try to play it. Is there something I need to do to the MP3 and video files make them work, or am I doing something wrong? I would really like to get this working. BB |

Maybe someone else has an idea of what could cause that, but you could enable debug logging to see if the log contains any info. If it crashes w/o being able to write anything to the log, try setting this property, if it isn't already true:
logging_flush_each_entry=true - Andy

I have the same issue. When I'm trying to play an xvid file sage crashes, showing me the sagetv mouse curser thing. That's it. Need to hardboot the system to get it up again.
I hope this can be fixed soon!

Btw... this seems to happen in Full Screen Exclusive Mode only. If I play the xvid files in window mode they play fine. At least for me.

Mine use to crash when trying to play an mp3. But after a reformat and reinstall of everything it worked fine again.
But then later it went back to crashing. I am pretty sure one of the imports I installed broke it when overwriting files upon installing them in the sage directories. I installed the latest beta 6.1.3 RC1 a couple days ago and it now works fine again. I tried contacting sage when the problem first came up and they didn't seem to figure anything out. But that makes sense if some import screwed with it. It was just weird how completely uninstalling and reinstalling the same version of sage didn't fix it (version 6.0.19). Good luck. |

Well, I stumbled upon the answer. I had selected my ATI Cyberlink audio decoder in the audio render settings menu. I changed it to my onboard sound decoder and everything plays. My guess (and it is just a guess) is that the cyberlink decoder does not do MP3 and since some of my avis are MP3 sound it was crashing on the MP3 track. Subsequently set it to default direct sound device and that works too.
I am using the cyberlink mpeg 2 decoder so and cyberlink mpeg audio decoder so I figured that I should use it as the audio render. Maybe this will help somebody else. BB |

Interesting. I think that was what audio decoder I was trying to use back then. Thanks for the update. |
