Aspect Ratio on two different screens.
I just started using SageTV and I am still trying to work out the bugs in my particular application. I currently have problems with the aspect ratio. I have read through a lot of threads but I have yet to find someone who has my particular problem.
I have a 16x9 LCD tv that is the primary user of SageTV. I also have a 4x3 tv that uses TVersity and a D-Link DSM-320 media player to stream the video recorded by Sage. I use the 16x9 AR in Sage to make everything work properly on my LCD, but the video that is recorded is incorrectly displayed on the 4x3. The DSM-320 does not alter the aspect ratio of the video at all. It just displays it in whatever resolution it was recorded in. That means that I get the pillar box effect on the 4x3 tv. I can change the settings to work on the SDTV, but it requires me to change the AR settings on my DirecTV STB so when I try to watch tv on the 16x9 without using my PVR (i.e. directly from the STB to the TV) any 4x3 content is stretched. So here is my question: Is there any way to have the AR correct in all cases (by way of settings or a plugin, etc.) Without having to go through the hassle of changing AR settings all of the time? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Loquist |

Take a look at this plugin. This will help you keep the display aspect ratio setting correct for whatever monitor you're displaying on at the moment.
Setting the playback aspect ratio for different types of content is a whole different issue.

Note that the SageTV AR settings only affect video playback, not recording.
So, it is up to you DSM-320, over which SageTV has no control over, to handle ARs. The recorded analog tv show files, don't usually have the correct flags set to trigger AR switching..... so I think you are limited to switching AR with the TV remote control.
