Hauppauge USB2 PVR weirdness
So a strange thing happened when I put one of my network encoding PC's on gigabit Ethernet, practically every other show recorded from that box now has corruption (blockiness, pixelation). If I put it back on a 10/100 switch the shows record fine, switch to gigabit Ethernet and the occasional corruption shows up again in the files. And these aren't HD shows or anything, just stuff sucked in from a DirecTV box with a Hauppauge WinTV PVR USB2.
I figure it's either a problem with the board's gigabit or the Hauppauge USB2 PVR is getting a hiccup on the board's bus. I've tried two different gigabit switches to eliminate that part as a problem and it happens with both a NetGear and a D-Link, so it's not the switch. The next step I guess is to get a PCI based gigabit card and see if that gets rid of it. The board's Ethernet and USB bus are not on the same interrupt. I was hoping they would be and that would explain it. Anyone experience something like this with a Hauppauge USB2 before? Thx.

Doesn't seem to be PVRUSB2 related.
I 'd say it's network related. Either the port or cabling. Have you checked your cabling? It may be problematic.

the reason I suspect the PVR-USB2 is I'm not seeing a problem with the network in any other way. I also use the same PC as a client and I can watch streamed HD shows on here without any problem. and I've run network load tests also with this box without issue. it's odd.

I thought for sure it would be the onboard gigabit. well. it's not. I bought a PCI gigabit card and within 12 hours got a recording that was messed up again. so far I've eliminated the switches and the Ethernet adapters as the problem.
I supposed it could be the longish run of the Cat 5E cable, but why do I not see symptoms when watching material then? I think on average, gigabit is rated to run up to 500 meters, I'm way under that. I still think the USB Hauppauge encoder is the problem so I guess next I'll get a PCI based encoder and see if that fixes it. what's weird is it happens on even the lowest bandwidth shows, for instance the latest was off of the Food Network, no HD or anything. there isn't any network stress involved. The new NIC is on an IRQ with video, not USB and nothing was being watched at the time that latest show was being recorded so I don't believe that's it either.
