Question What is the difference ? Overlay & VMR9

Hi.
Could someone perhaps help me understand ( in plain english ) what the difference is between:
1 - Overlay
2 - VMR9
and what their advantages/dis-advantages are ?

and also what the " 3D Acceleration " setting in Detailed Setup --> Advanced would be used for ?

I have played around with them but do not see a difference.

Thank you

There's a FAQ to check out. 3D Acceleration uses the video card's built-in 3D hardware via DirectX, which obviously must be used for VMR9, but not for overlay.

BTW: I've heard that overlay supprt in video cards is going away, with the latest nvidia cards emulating it.
